282,559 passengers passed through Tallinn Airport in July

03.08.2022

282,559 passengers passed through Tallinn Airport in July, marking a 78% rise on the same period last year. This represents 88% of the pre-crisis level.

According to Eero Pärgmäe, Member of the Management Board of Tallinn Airport, the number of passengers in July was very good, but the recovery of passenger numbers to pre-crisis levels will be affected by the resolution of logistical bottlenecks caused by the general staff shortages at European airports. “The situation in the aviation sector has generally stabilised, but there are still changes to flight schedules, cancellations and delays, which means it’s important for passengers to keep track of flight schedules and notifications from airlines, and to contact their airline in case of changes to flight schedules,” Pärgmäe said, adding that although the average security screening time at Tallinn Airport was less than 15 minutes in the last weeks of July, the two-hour rule still applies. “Because of the very high percentage of seats occupied during the summer, it also takes longer to check passengers in. To ensure that all the airport procedures are completed in time so you can enjoy the start of your journey, we recommend arriving two hours before departure. We also recommend using more direct flights and, if possible, taking hand luggage that is properly packed.”

Pärgmäe reminds everyone that as of July, all passengers flying with AirBaltic or SAS who have checked baggage will be able to check it in themselves and thus catch their flight faster.“The self-service bag drops are located at check-in desks 1-4 and passengers must check in online to use them. Baggage can be left at the bag drop up to 24 hours before departure via the self-service system, which is open from 04:00-21:00”.

In July, there were flights on 35 regular routes operated by 14 airlines. The biggest number of passengers flew to major hubs in Riga, Helsinki and Frankfurt. In May, the average capacity for scheduled flights was 82%. Antalya remained the most popular holiday destination.

AirBaltic and Ryanair were the largest carriers with market shares of 25% and 22%, respectively. 9% of passengers flew with Lufthansa and 8% with Finnair.

In July, there were 3,513 flight operations, which is an average of 113 landings and take-offs per day.

A total of 1,486,536 passengers have passed through Tallinn Airport from January to July, which is more than the total for the whole of 2021.

A total of 7,724 passengers passed through regional airports in July. Kuressaare Airport served 4,170 passengers, which was 3% more than last July. Kärdla Airport handled 1,450 passengers and Tartu Airport 1,190. 914 passengers passed through Pärnu Airport, 75% of whom flew on the Helsinki route. A seasonal air connection from Pärnu to Stockholm is also open. Last July, there was no such air traffic from Pärnu and Tartu.

A total of 36,080 passengers have passed through regional airports from January to July.

Passenger and flight operations reports can also be found on the websites of the airports – the report of Tallinn can be found here and all regional airports can be found in the same report, which can be found on each airport’s home page “About the Airport”. To view the results of a specific airport, you must select the airport from the drop-down menu in the left column.
